Starting salary £36,004 per annum, £906 per month night shift allowancem 10% annual bonus potential

The Aviation Security Manager is responsible for leading the secure, compliant, and high-volume screening of international mail and parcels within PFW automated processing centres. The role ensures full compliance with DfT aviation security regulations, Border Force requirements, and Royal Mail operational standards, while delivering performance in a fast-paced, technology-driven environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead a night shift team, ensuring safe operations, high throughput, and consistent service delivery across both peak and non-peak periods
  • Lead automated screening operations for international parcels, integrating security with sortation systems
  • Manage high-volume traffic aligned with dispatch schedules and network timelines
  • Optimise resources (people, equipment, workflows) to meet productivity and throughput targets
  • Ensure strict compliance with DfT Regulated Agent standards and ensure all cross-border cargo and freight operations comply with UK National Aviation Security Programme (NASP)
  • Oversee screening processes (X-ray, ETD, manual checks) for flagged items
  • Lead audits, compliance checks, CCTV reviews and incident investigations
  • Maintain screening standards to detect prohibited and high-risk items
  • Manage and develop Team Leaders and Screening Officers, including AvSec training delivery
  • Build effective relationships within a unionised (CWU) environment
  • Drive performance through KPIs, feedback, and continuous improvement activities
Attendance: Monday - Friday, 20:00 - 04:00. A degree of flexibility is required to meet operational demands.

About youYou need to demonstrate the following skills and experience on your application:

  • Strong knowledge of DfT aviation security and screening requirements
  • Knowledge of international mail flows and customs processes, Royal Mail network operations and dispatch planning (desirable) and a understanding of HR legislation and processes
  • Previous management experience from a logistics, aviation, or a large-scale high volume ,automated parcel operation
  • Proven leadership in a large, unionised workforce environment
  • Ability to analyse data and drive improvements in a technology-enabled setting
  • Relevant certifications in screening/X-ray/aviation security preferred
Please note, the successful candidate will need to pass a Counter-Terrorism check (CTC) or obtain security clearance (SC) prior to commencing employment. The checks can take up to 6 weeks to be completed.
