Our Client

Our client is an organization in the oil and gas industry, with a strategic focus on LNG business and operations in a challenging environment in Papua New Guinea. The subsidiary was established in mid-2014 to cover E&P activities in the Elk/Antelope fields and operates the country's second LNG project.

Scope

The Aviation Superintendent is a rotational position (five weeks on, five weeks off), working 12 hours per day, and is based at Herd Base. This role is responsible for overseeing all aviation activities within the project. The Aviation Superintendent ensures aircraft efficiency and compliance with the EP16 Directive and other company rules. The position reports to the Head of the Logistics Base and the RSES at Herd Base, and also supports the Supply Chain Manager in Port Moresby when needed. The role requires a proactive, 'hands-on' approach with a strong focus on safety and compliance monitoring.

Key Responsibilities

Operations:
  • Manage and coordinate all aviation activities, including helipads and airstrips.
  • Plan and coordinate daily flight schedules, ensuring aircraft can perform planned activities.
  • Develop and review standard operating procedures (SOPs) for aviation activities.
  • Ensure dangerous goods are properly declared and documented before flight.
  • Supervise inspections and notifications to ensure daily checks of helipads and runways are performed and recorded.
Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE):
  • Promote and enforce all applicable safety and environmental regulations related to aviation.
  • Identify national and international HSE regulations relevant to the domain.
  • Participate in investigations of aviation-related incidents and accidents.
  • Contribute to safety feedback notices and the REX+ experience database.
Reporting and Expertise:
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and yearly aviation activity reports.
  • Act as the key point of contact for all aviation-related activities for various departments, including Drilling, Projects, and Logistics.
  • Assess and provide a clear picture of personnel competence and training across operational sites.
Mentorship and Training:
  • Develop and assess the knowledge of the aviation team.
  • Coach and mentor site personnel involved in aviation activities.
  • Participate in developing training plans for personnel.
Qualifications
  • At least 10 years of experience in the aviation industry.
  • Prior experience as a pilot (rotary-wing or fixed-wing), aircraft engineer, or air traffic controller is required.
  • Experience in aviation safety management and accident/incident investigation is desirable.
  • Proven experience in positions that require a high level of commitment to the safety and welfare of the workforce.
  • Strong coaching and teamwork abilities.
  • Demonstrated leadership and organizational skills in a multicultural environment.
  • Excellent command of English and computer literacy with Microsoft Office.
