POSITION SUMMARY

The Manager for the Aerospace Additive Research Centre (AARC) will be based in Ansty Park in the United Kingdom. The primary responsibilities for this position are the leadership and management of the AARC. This includes technical, budget, and schedule responsibility for all AARC projects, the safe operation and maintenance of the additive manufacturing equipment (located in Ansty Park) and the management and oversight of the twelve members of the AARC team which are located in both Ansty Park and Bristol, UK. In addition, this role will be accountable for establishing and optimizing an effective Additive Manufacturing capability (Materials, Design, Manufacturing, and Quality) to support the Aerospace Group's Additive Manufacturing goals across the globe.

Also, this role will be required to work closely with the Advanced Manufacturing (AMC) based in the Cleveland area in the United States to ensure consistency across all of Parker Hannifin. Lastly, this role requires the technical ability to identify emerging Additive Manufacturing technology advancements and to incorporate updated design and manufacturing techniques into Parker Aerospace Product Designs to increase Manufacturing Readiness Levels (MRL) for use in New Product Introductions (NPI) across the group. Notably, this includes working with industrial and academic partners on state-of-the-art machine and process developments, extracting core technology and embedding and implementing them in divisional processes to maximise benefit for the corporation, whilst also liaising with senior stakeholders (to CEO level) in the aerospace supply chain and governmental funding organizations, as this role oversees a core part of the aerospace group's R&T spend commitment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Provides Management and Leadership for the AARC Engineering and Operations team.
  • Provides technical leadership for the design and development of Additively Manufactured Components
  • Responsible for the detailed design of Additively Manufactured Heat Exchangers including model development, aerothermal and structural analysis, tolerance stack-ups and analysis, detailed drawings, and geometry preparation for manufacture.
  • Lead the day-to-day operations of the advanced additive manufacturing (AM) team including all design, manufacturing, quality and safety processes.
  • Develops and enhances novel design and manufacturing processes, process improvements, design and manufacturing tools and team training to ensure safe, compliant, cost-effective designs and products to provide a roadmap to a certifiable product.
  • Represent the Aerospace Group on industry bodies advising on AM strategy for aerospace, standardisation of process and certification.
  • Work with Divisions to understand the potential of AM to enhance their product offering to establish and mature their AM design and manufacturing capabilities
  • Provides bids and estimates for customer information requests and proposals
  • Responsible for labor and non-labor budgets for both program direct and indirect department budgets
  • Responsible for the development of the AARC Strategy, Technical Roadmaps, and Long-Term Vision for the Corporation
  • Responsible for Division Program Direct and Research & Development Project execution (Technical, Cost, Schedules)
  • Ensures program objectives and contractual requirements or customer expectations are met, including required scope, cost, and schedule constraints.
  • Interface with the Supply Chain organization and suppliers for the procurement of feedstock, prototype parts, services, and equipment - maintaining performance metrics and identifying viable options for serial production.
  • Responsible for staff recruiting, hiring, performance management, coaching, career development, and training
  • Ensuring that safe working practices and a robust Quality Management System and HS&E policy are maintained within the AM cell.
  • Implementing Equipment and Process Improvements across AARC to increase product profitability and reduce product development cycle times
  • Development and implementation of IP capture and protection processes in accordance with Parker Aerospace guidelines
  • Approval of manufacturing readiness of components in gate reviews to ensure robust product delivery. Regular and frequent internal and external interaction with program management, customers, and division and corporate leadership on technical projects
  • Support Parker Hannifin Technical Communities of Practice to disseminate & share knowledge
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Requires a Bachelor's Degree/Master's Degree in Mechanical or Materials Engineering
  • 10 years of Aerospace design and project management related experience with proven ability to develop Aerospace products
  • 10 years of experience in Additive Manufacturing Design or Operations
  • Working Knowledge of design and modeling tools and CAE systems (CATIA, Solid Works, Ansys...)
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Tool Suite
  • Working knowledge of EVMS and Scheduling tools including Microsoft Project
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills for coordinating across teams and effectively work across multiple levels of the organization
  • Ability to travel 20% - 30% of the time
  • Ability to build strong teams as well as collaborate and work well in a team environment
  • Ability to breakdown complex issues into solvable problems
  • Proven ability to manage staff performance, coaching, career development, and training
