What you’ll be doing:You’ll spend your first year completing your foundation training at Glasgow Clyde College which will give you a broad understanding of manufacturing engineering principles. Alongside job-specific training courses you’ll get to study for a BEng Honours Engineering: Design and Manufacture degree at Strathclyde University on day release from year 1 onwards.&nbsp;From your second year, you’ll embark on a series of six-month placements on site at Rolls-Royce Inchinnan&nbsp;During year 2, you will complete a 10-week training course, in person, at either our Derby or Bristol sites. Travel expenses will be paid.&nbsp;Across your apprenticeship you’ll gain practical knowledge in areas such as developing new technology, introducing new products and continuously improving existing manufacturing processes and controlling change, implementing digital manufacturing solutions and interfacing with suppliers. Alongside this, you’ll learn how to manage projects and costs, how to design and validate manufacturing processes, how to solve engineering problems, and how to implement quality assurance methods.&nbsp;Who we’re looking for:<ul><li>Five National 5s or equivalent at grade C or above, which must include Maths and English</li><li>4 SQA Highers (B grade or higher) including Maths and Physics</li></ul>&nbsp;If you have already achieved your Highers, you’ll be required to sit a 9-week online Maths course and test with Strathclyde University. Any offer which you are made prior to completing this will be a conditional offer until you have successfully passed this additional entry requirement and have been accepted by Strathclyde University. If you are completing your Highers this academic year, you’ll need to achieve the required grades, but you’ll not need to sit the additional course and test.&nbsp;Every bit as important as your academic achievements, however, are the personal qualities you bring to the role. As a GNC/AOCS Engineer - Avionics at Spire, you will operate as part of a technical team who maintains responsibility across the full lifecycle of the Spire GNC product and its subcomponents. The GNC team interfaces directly with many engineering groups to conduct R&amp;D, design, manufacturing, and operations activities, ultimately ensuring all current and future spacecraft systems satisfy their mission. Ideal candidates will embrace the commercialization of nanosatellite systems and adapt to low-cost, fast-paced systems design, development, and implementation methodologies that set Spire apart from our competition. GNC Engineer - Avionics

We are looking for a Spacecraft Software Engineer (GNSS) to join our team working at the intersection of satellite payloads, scientific computing, and data delivery systems. In this role, you'll be responsible for developing and maintaining both the flight and ground software that powers our satellite-based GNSS missions. You'll work across system layers-from embedded software to cloud data pipelines-to help ensure the accurate and timely delivery of mission-critical scientific data to our customers. This is a high-impact role where autonomy, creativity, and technical breadth are key. What You'll Do as a Senior Software Engineer: <ul><li>Develop and maintain scientific and command &amp; control software for GNSS-based satellite payloads using a variety of software stacks. </li></ul><ul><li>Build and operate ground-based automation systems for efficient data extraction, transformation, and delivery from the satellite to end users. </li></ul><ul><li>Collaborate closely with flight operations to troubleshoot and ensure consistent, high-quality data delivery. </li></ul><ul><li>Engage with other system engineers, payload developers, and mission operators to continuously evolve the software in support of scientific objectives. </li><li>Participate in code reviews, testing, and documentation to uphold software reliability and traceability. </li></ul>Who You Are (Required Qualifications): We're looking for someone with at least 5 of the following qualifications: <ul><li>Proficient in at least one of C++ or Python, and capable of picking up new tools and languages as needed. </li></ul><ul><li>Experience in FPGA development (VHDL or HLS) for signal processing or control systems. </li></ul><ul><li>Solid background in DSP techniques and theory, especially in the context of RF or GNSS. </li></ul><ul><li>Familiarity with GNSS signal processing and/or scientific applications such as GNSS-RO, GNSS-R, or PNT algorithms. </li></ul><ul><li>Skilled in cloud-based systems (e.g., AWS), backend development, and managing data via scalable storage/database solutions. </li></ul><ul><li>A lifelong learner-curious, adaptable, and open to new challenges outside your immediate expertise. </li></ul><ul><li>Demonstrates strong work ethics and a focus on impactful contributions to the mission and team. </li></ul><ul><li>Capable of independently navigating technical challenges and making forward progress without constant direction. </li></ul>Preferred Skills: <ul><li>Prior experience working on satellite payloads or in the aerospace domain. </li></ul><ul><li>Experience building telemetry and data visualization tools. </li></ul><ul><li>Contribution to open-source scientific or aerospace-related software projects. </li></ul>Spire operates a hybrid work model, and this position will require you to work a minimum of three days per week in the office.
