Ascent Flight Training was appointed in 2008 to design and deliver a modern and efficient flying training system by the UK MOD.
Created as a joint venture between Lockheed Martin UK AND Babcock International; and is responsible within the UK Military Flight Training System (UKMFTS) for the training design and training delivery that creates the next generation of aircrew.

Ascent Flight Training is seeking an experienced and inspirational Deputy Chief Pilot (Airborne) to help shape the future of UK military flying training. This is a unique opportunity to combine your flying expertise with leadership, mentoring, and operational excellence in a dynamic and safety-critical environment.
Your Mission & Key Responsibilities
As Deputy Chief Pilot, you'll lead by example-delivering top-tier flying instruction while managing and developing a high-performing instructor team. You will:
- Deliver safe, high-quality flying training and assessments.
- Manage instructor availability to meet daily flying schedules.
- Deputise for the Chief (Airborne) to ensure training continuity.
- Uphold safety, quality, and compliance standards.
- Mentor and develop instructors to maintain instructional excellence.
- Support recruitment, performance reviews, and team development.
- Drive improvements in courseware and training delivery.
- Liaise with stakeholders to ensure smooth training operations.
Essential:
- Qualified Flying Instructor with Central Flying School B1 Category or higher.
- Proven supervisory and leadership experience.
- Medical fitness for airborne duties.
- Willingness to complete Defence Training Supervisor and CAI qualifications.
- Certificate of Qualification on Prefect and Instrument Ratings Test.
- Experience in safety-critical aviation training environments.
- Strong understanding of training systems, courseware, and syllabus design.
- Familiarity with ISO9001, QMS, and aviation duty holder constructs.
