Job Responsibilities:
Provide Flight and Ground Instruction:
- Conduct flight training, teaching students essential skills such as takeoffs, landings, emergency procedures, and navigation.
- Deliver ground school instruction, covering topics like aerodynamics, weather conditions, regulations, and radio procedures.
- Contribute to the academic success of students and the College's mission.
- Prepare lesson plans, course materials, and training outlines.
- Update program content to meet educational standards and training requirements.
- Assess student performance through quizzes, tests, exams, and practical evaluations.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress, including attendance and grades, in the College portal (MyWCC).
- Adhere to Transport Canada regulations and college safety standards.
- Support the CFI in ensuring training equipment and aircraft are in proper working order.
- Enforce policies, such as the no-pet policy, to maintain a distraction-free training environment.
- Plan and organize flight training sessions to maximize training efficiency.
- Coordinate schedules with the CFI and other instructors, considering both flight and ground school requirements.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to help students prepare for Transport Canada exams.
- Support licensed pilots seeking additional certifications.
- Document flight lessons and ensure records are kept up-to-date in the college's system.
- Communicate any scheduling changes, such as cancellations due to weather, ensuring transparency and fairness.
Requirements
- Class 2 or minimum Class 3 Flight Instructor
- Thorough knowledge of Transport Canada Regulations
- Working knowledge of Health and Safety requirements
- Working knowledge of Safety Management Systems and Quality Assurance
- Transport Canada Authorized Person Authority experience
- Formal aviation training with instructional experience in flight and ground school settings
- Experience evaluating student progress and maintaining accurate training records
- Familiarity with curriculum development and aviation regulatory compliance
- Background in coordinating training schedules and supporting exam preparation.
