Your Mission:

The Senior Propulsion Engineer will play a key role in advancing the propulsion system development for the E9X battery-electric aircraft. Reporting directly to the Head of Propulsion, this role requires a technically proficient engineer with a strong background in aircraft propulsion systems. You will drive technical excellence, support strategic goals, and mentor junior engineers while contributing to the development and execution of critical propulsion projects.

Your Day to Day:

Technical Expertise & Project Execution
  • Lead the design, development, and integration of propulsion system components for the E9X aircraft, focusing on the fuel-based reserve energy system.
  • Develop and execute engineering projects within the Propulsion Technical Domain, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives.
  • Optimize propulsion performance, efficiency, and reliability through innovation and advanced engineering methodologies.
  • Develop and execute test plans for propulsion system validation, including ground and wind tunnel testing.
  • Ensure compliance with aviation regulations, certification requirements, and industry best practices.
Leadership & Team Collaboration
  • Provide technical leadership within the propulsion team, guiding engineers through complex problem-solving and innovation.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with electrical, aerodynamics, and systems integration teams to ensure seamless propulsion system integration.
  • Mentor and develop junior engineers, fostering a culture of learning and professional growth.
  • Assist the Head of Propulsion in defining technology roadmaps and long-term propulsion system strategies.
Stakeholder Management & Innovation
  • Engage with suppliers, partners, and regulatory bodies to drive technical excellence and project execution.
  • Present technical progress, challenges, and solutions to senior management and key stakeholders.
  • Stay informed on emerging propulsion technologies and industry trends, integrating relevant advancements into Elysian's propulsion strategy.
Success Factors:

  • 7+ years' experience in propulsion systems; experience with hybrid-electric aircraft is a strong plus.
  • Expertise on gas turbine performance, integration, and certification is required.
  • Proven experience in aircraft propulsion system design, integration, and testing.
  • Knowledge of thermal management, fuel systems, and propeller systems is a strong plus.
  • Experience with aviation certification processes and regulatory compliance.
  • Ability to work independently while ensuring alignment with broader team objectives.
  • Proficiency in engineering tools such as CAD, CFD, and propulsion system modelling software.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical data clearly.
Key Qualifications:

  • Master's or Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience in electric aircraft propulsion development is a strong plus.
  • Hands-on experience with propulsion system testing and validation.
  • Deep understanding of aerospace industry trends and a strong professional network.
  • Passion for sustainable aviation and a commitment to reducing the environmental impact of air travel.
