Overview We are seeking a Principal EMC Engineer with specialist knowledge in Military and Aerospace EMC standards (e.g. DEF STAN 59-411, MIL-STD-461, RTCA DO-160) to join our expert team. Joining the Fleet Operations Spacecraft Subsystem Engineer team, you will report to the Senior Manager of Satellite Technical Operation. What You'll Do: The candidate will provide support to the Fleet Operations Team for the operations of in-orbit subsystems, software and/or equipment, as well as for the operations preparation and operational conduct of in-orbit verification. This support may also include support on-board software management, simulator configuration, automation of routine analysis, analytics of large datasets, development of analysis tools. The Spacecraft Subsystem Engineer will also support the OneWeb Space Segment during the satellite manufacturing process, support satellite anomaly investigations, and generate analytical reports and briefings. The candidate should establish effective working interfaces with the satellite operations activities of other operations engineers and analysts, and external teams responsible for mission control, mission planning, flight dynamics and ground stations. Additionally, the candidate should provide support to system and operations and launch preparation activities for Production spacecraft as well as follow on missions. The successful candidate will be based in the Mechanical and Aerospace Systems research group (previously known as G2TRC) within the faculty of Engineering and will be part of a supportive team of 50 researchers, technicians, support staff and academics. The successful candidate will be working across Mechanical, Aerospace &amp; Chemical Engineering and Chemistry. The faculties of Science and Engineering have a well-developed research support base including NET2Zero CDT, and EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Resilient Chemistry: Feedstock to Function. The research programme will use a mixture of computational, analytical and experimental techniques to investigate potential fuel additives to understand the mechanical, chemical and environmental impacts. We are looking for an enthusiastic and self-motivated person with a rigorous approach to research. Applicants should have, or be expected to gain a high 2:1, preferably a 1st class honours degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering or Chemistry or a related degree. A good knowledge and/or experience in chemical experimental techniques is essential, as is the ability to work well in a team. Prior experience in the areas of computational chemistry or analytical chemistry/chemical engineering will be an advantage. The successful applicant would be expected to spend part of the PhD period based in Bristol at the Airbus site and will receive supervision support and training from both the University and Airbus. The successful candidate will gain experience in designing fuel additives, utilising computational, analytical and experimental techniques, potentially including machine learning. This research will support the path to net zero flights and there will be opportunities to become involved in practical aspects of fuel system design and testing during their PhD. You will have responsibility for managing projects including tasks relating to bidding, project team management, project delivery, and financial management. <ul> <li>Managing the delivery of a diverse range of environmental inputs into aviation projects including planning applications, EIA, airspace change proposals, and support for DCO examinations and/or planning inquiries. </li> <li>An awareness of and experience in the delivery of environmental inputs into projects including EIA screening requests and scoping reports, environmental constraints studies, environmental management plans and Environmental Statements.</li> <li>Building relationships with clients and identifying opportunities to provide support in areas such as resourcing, programming, strategy development and project delivery.</li> <li>Undertaking activities to secure new work, including preparing proposals, contributing to strategic-bid preparation, and participating in business development opportunities.</li> <li>Supporting the development of innovative techniques to shape the way we do our business whether through Digital EIA, Technical Excellence, Future Ready EIA etc.</li> <li>Inspiring and upskilling junior colleagues to support their career development.</li> <li>Promoting an inclusive workplace, demonstrating an understanding of Health and Safety whilst living the values of our health, safety, and wellbeing culture.</li> <li>Undertaking actions that contribute towards the success of the WSP business strategy, whilst being self-motivated towards goals relevant to the role, team, and your projects.</li></ul>What we will be looking for you to demonstrate... <ul> <li>A relevant environmental degree level qualification in EIA, or similar.</li> <li>Achieved or demonstrably working towards Practitioner or Chartered Environmental Status and Full membership of IEMA, or similar qualification with a relevant professional body.</li> <li>Demonstratable experience of undertaking EIA for aviation schemes with limited supervision, including under a range of UK planning regimes such as the Town and Country Planning Act and the Planning Act 2008. </li> <li>Demonstrates the ability to apply programme knowledge to effectively coordinate tasks across technical teams, external clients, stakeholders, and partner organisations, while consistently delivering projects or tasks on time and within budget, in full compliance with business management procedures.</li> <li>Ability to lead and contribute to meetings with the wider technical team and external clients and stakeholders. </li> <li>Experience in coordinating a suite of environmental surveys required to support an EIA for aviation schemes, with knowledge of the associated Health and Safety requirements. </li> <li>Experience in bid preparation and responding to client change requests with appropriate fee adjustments for aviation projects.</li> <li>Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong report writing and review capabilities, attention to detail, and a focus on quality assurance</li></ul>Imagine a better future for you and a better future for us all.
